The New York Worlds Fair of 1964/65--It was a failure?

My memory tells me I enjoyed the New York World's Fair of 1964, but I guess I was wrong?
This eight minute newsreel, and a story in Smithsonian Magazine, tell of a badly designed event that included a rather bizarre integrated "minstrel show" and civil rights picketing.
I was just a kid at the time, so perhaps I was easier to please than adults. I especially remember the picture-phone demonstration, the Disney automaton figures, the globe, and "Futurama".

  1. And now picture-phones are commonplace. I use one almost every day.
