MMMM # 475 -- Good Bye USA Weekend

USA Weekend Magazine has been a staple in The Montgomery Advertiser for years, but it was always a second-cousin to Parade, the big daddy newspaper Sunday magazine segment. In Sunday's paper, The Advertiser announced that the magazine is going away---suggesting that it is no longer needed because much of the same material is in their USA Today feature section.

The Advertiser was the only paper in Alabama carrying the weekend supplement.
Still, after the recent layoffs at The Advertiser, the move may be perceived as another step in the dismantling of the daily newspaper model.

There was an excellent segment on the On The Media radio
show this weekend. It takes the media to task for accepting the "black Friday" sales numbers issued by various business groups. The story should be mandatory listening for all reporters.
