The U.S. Supreme Court is going to hear a case involving specialty Confederate license plates.
The case is out of Texas, but would have an impact on states like Alabama, which issues dozens of special plates, including a Sons of Confederate Veterans tag.
Alabama is drenched in confederate lore, with reenactments and monuments to The Confederacy in just about every town square.
If the Supreme Court should decide the state cannot issue confederate tags, or other offensive tags, there would be a revolt.
Trivia: All standard Alabama tags are required by state law to have a "Heart of Dixie" symbol, but over the years the symbol has been shrunk to the size of a large period, or been disguised, under Democratic and Republican Governors. Here is the current standard plate. See the Heart of Dixie logo?
The decision could also have an impact on abortion tags--pro or con...and other political message tags.
