Sunday Focus: The Faulkner U. Drug Killing

As Alabama news Network reported on Friday, the shooting death of a Faulkner University student involved an attempt to steal illegal drugs. But there are still many unanswered questions about the incident.

Marshall Wall

Faulkner officials expressed shock, saying it was the first such incident in the school's 72 years, and said the University is "...a Christian university, not only in name, but in the way we conduct ourselves, as an example of Jesus Christ.

Tabias Russell
During the attempted theft--at an off campus home near Blount Cultural Park---, one of the students---Ryan Brooks--- was shot to death by the homeowner who they apparently thought had drugs. Police have not said whether drugs were found, or whether the homeowner---another Faulkner student named Franklin Williams---may been charged with drug possession.

Ronnie Williams
The police have said Williams was defending himself when he shot and killed fellow student Ryan Brooks.

Alabama law allows someone involved in a felony crime to be charged with murder if anyone is killed, including a person involved in the crime, so the three other students have been charged with "felony murder".

  1. I don't understand why the police & prosecutors keep the public in the dark like this. It would seem they have a responsibility to the citizens who live in the area disclosure.

I don't know much about how criminal investigations work (and I hope to keep it that way) but the prosecution has to disclose evidence anyway, right?

    The public deserves to know.
