The 150th anniversary of the Lincoln Assassination is in April. Did you know:

• John Wilkes Booth was Abraham Lincoln's favorite actor.

(so reports the Ford Theater Historical site.)

• ...and Booth believed he was doing God's work. He was a religious fanatic, reports Smithsonian Magazine in an excellent article about April's 150th anniversary of the assassination.

“Our country owed all our troubles to [Lincoln], and God simply made me the instrument of his punishment,”

• AND....conspiracy theorists of the time thought the Pope was behind the assassination. 

• Four of the conspirators were hanged less than three months after Lincoln's death, their heads covered with white cloth.
