Another Archival Loss for Alabama

Another defeat for Alabama's Archival Dreams.

I've already posted about Detroit coming to Montgomery and buying the actual bus on which Rosa Parks took her stand, or seat, if you will,....now the archives of Spider Martin have been bought by the University of Texas in Austin, according to a story in the (Pay Wall) New York Times.

Martin created some of the most iconic visuals of the Civil Rights Movement...including his great coverage of the Selma to Montgomery March 65 years ago next month.

According to the Times, the University paid $250,000 for the materials, including some negatives that have never been seen by the public.

Another example of how poor Alabama is. Other come to pick at the bones, two weeks before legislators try to patch a $700,000,000 whole in a budget. A budget that funds things like The Alabama Department of Archives and History.
