The Montgomery Police Department is withholding basic information about a murder-suicide because they do not want to cause the family any more grief.
This may be the first time in my memory that the name of a person who commits murder is being kept secret. The MPD will not even release where the killings happened, not even a section of town. The Advertiser reported it this way:
Due to the nature and sensitivity of the event, MPD will not be releasing the identities of the deceased or the location at which the event occurred.
Now that the precedent has been established, will they do the same for a police officer who commits a crime? Or a minister accused of raping his daughter?
I understand not identifying an individual who kills him or herself without harming anyone else or creating a public spectacle.
But when there is a murderer involved?
Are police covering something up?
ALSO in midweek media news:
Two Canadian journalism students probably had no idea what they were getting into when they attempted to attend a public meeting to cover it as a class project.
They were barred from entering, maybe because they are white. Or maybe because they are journalists. Or both.
The Huffington Post has the details.
