50
years ago today, one of the three people who who were murdered for
their involvement in the Selma to Montgomery March died in a Birmingham
Hospital.
He was one of the ministers who answered Dr. King's call to come to Selma and join the March. He was killed and two fellow ministers were beaten by three white thugs in Selma. Here is an interview with one of the survivors.
King gave the eulogy for Rev. James Reeb:
''James
Reeb was murdered by the
indifference of every minister of the gospel who has remained silent behind the safe security of stained glass windows."
indifference of every minister of the gospel who has remained silent behind the safe security of stained glass windows."
There is no telling what influence those words might have had on ministers who had remained silent.
