Saturday Data: I'll bet!

A story in this past week's  TIME Magazine reports $2.5 Billion will change hands in betting on "March Madness". During the entire year, the magazine estimates an astounding $140-Billion will be spent on illegal sports betting....not much less than the GNP of Kuwait.

Sure, some it will go to bookies, but a lot will be placed on office "pools" across Alabama. Thousands of them. The FBI once identified Alabama as home to more illegal betting than any other state.

All of it is illegal in Alabama, of course, but the authorities---who spend millions in tax dollars raiding BINGO operations---look the other way. If you think it is somehow legal, watch my interview on Sunday morning at 9:00 AM on ABC Montgomery with Montgomery County District Attorney Daryl Bailey.
And the next time you hear about two Governors making "a friendly wager" over the results of a cross-border game, ask yourself how that's different.
     How's your bracket?

It is the hypocrisy that makes it so wrong.
