State Judicial Building, where CJ Roy Moore works. |
The AP story today reports:
Administrative Director of the Courts Rich Hobson says cuts could force courts to close at least two days each week.
Moore declined to say whether he supports Gov. Robert Bentley's plan for $541 million in new tax revenue.
Legislative leaders say they will deal with cuts before looking for new revenue.
This is the same song, millionth verse. The Chief Justice has been complaining about a lack of funding since he first served---and was thrown out of office over the 10 Commandments Monument fight in 2003. He was later re-elected.
He can rightly complain that it is not up to him to decide where the money comes from, that the Alabama Legislature has the constitutional duty to provide adequate funding, but that leaves him open to criticism. His party has a longstanding opposition to increasing taxes, so which agency does he say should be cut to add money to his budget? State Troopers? Prisons?
