What would have happened to the gyrocopter pilot if he had been carrying some other than letters calling for campaign finance reform when he landed on the U.S. Capitol Lawn?
He's under house arrest in Florida this morning, but.....suppose he had carried unloaded weapons as a protest against--or for--- gun control? Or, worse yet, if he had fashioned and carried a Ricin bomb?
If he had been spotted by security, would he have been shot down? And would you have blamed them for doing so?
The other question is whether the reporters who knew in advance of the stunt should have notified the authorities. A columnist for the newspaper in Sarasota Florida, Tom Lyons says certainly not.
I think we are all very fortunate this didn't turn out worse. The mailman is responsible for ignoring the potential danger in his stunt. We live in very dangerous times, and his actions put a lot of people in the potential line of fire. Next time, he should use the mail system, not his own half-baked scheme.
