Saturday Data: Free At Last

A 58 year old Alabama inmate who spent 30 years on Alabama Death Row has been freed.
As ABC reported, Anthony Ray Hinton was represented by Montgomery Lawyer Bryan Stevenson, and shed tears of joy as he walked out of the jail in Jefferson County where  he was temporarily being held.
Stevenson heads the Equal Justice Initiative.
Their account of the case is HERE.
You can read a detailed account of the court's decision to free Hinton HERE.
You might wonder how the state lawyers who worked to prosecute and execute Anthony Ray Hinton feel? How would they feel if they had been successful, and Hinton had been killed?
The power of the state to execute must be carefully monitored and carried out. There is no turning back if the state is wrong.

[UPDATE: the FOX affilliate in Birmingham talked with David Barber, the former District Attorney who prosecuted Hinton:

Barber said based on the firearms identification information at that time, he truly believed Hinton was guilty. But he also said its important to realize that experts and prosecutors are human.

“The criminal justice system is not a science. It never will be. It's run by people," Barber said.
As for his release today, Barber said only God and Hinton know what truly happened. ]
