   An article in The New York Times makes the George Wallace reference...quoting a lawyer for a gay man hired by the Boy Scouts in New York, in violation of a National BSA rule:

“An institution like the Boy Scouts doesn’t want to be the last bastion of discrimination nationally.”

Referring to Robert M. Gates, a former defense secretary and director of the Central Intelligence Agency who was elected president of the national group last year, Mr. Boies added: “Gates doesn’t want to be Governor Wallace.”
