At least that was the finding of a study released earlier this month. Alabama ranked 50th, beaten even by Mississippi, in the study ranking the states by these election criteria:
1-Effective participation
2-Voting equality
3-Enlightened understanding
4-Control of the agenda
5-Inclusion of adults
U.S. News and World Report analyzed that study to find out why Alabama is so very dead last in voting rights:
1-Effective participation
2-Voting equality
3-Enlightened understanding
4-Control of the agenda
5-Inclusion of adults
U.S. News and World Report analyzed that study to find out why Alabama is so very dead last in voting rights:
"While no state in CAP's survey got straight As – Maine, which CAP said had the healthiest democracy, still got Bs in two of the three categories – Alabama got a D- in representation (whether the lawmaking bodies reflect the population), and Fs in access to the ballot (how easy it is for citizens to vote) and political influence (the strength of campaign finance laws and transparency)."
Not surprising at all!
ReplyDeleteHere in Maryland, there is a two week period where you can drop in at your friendly local polling place and cast your ballot.
WAY too convenient, Jay. Next thing you know lots of folks who you do NOT want to vote will be doing so.
