Sure, TONS of Cicadas, but almost NO lightning bugs?

     I posted a sound file of the cicadas in my back yard last month, and thought about it tonight because they were out in force again.    
     Then I remembered thinking that there seems to be a shortage of another common yard dwelling Summer insect: the lightening bug!
     I posted about seeing the first one of the Summer in June, but since then..none!
    I found conflicting stories on line, and no apparent definitive source for  information. But have you noticed the shortage too?
