Here it is, a four-page ad wrapping around this morning's delivered N.Y. Times Sunday papers.
It had to cost a fortune, but this is Google after all, and if there is one thing they have, it is money.
What they apparently don't have is an ad agency with an editor...at least one who can write English correctly.
That would be "as", not "like".
The rule:
Replace the word "like" in the ad with "in the same way as". Bingo. Even though the Woodward English people allow for the incorrect usage in "informal English"...i.e., and agencies that don't care about grammar.
As vs Like: among the most frequently confused words in the language. Maybe they should have asked their Home assistant.
And yes, I have been on vacation, apparently too long. (-: back on Wednesday.
[Sunday Focus is a regular feature of www.timlennox.com, celebrating a 10th anniversary next month, still without an actual editor, by the way...or had you noticed?]
