Alapowco Closing Almost Half of its Offices



The utility will close 40 of 86 offices by August 30...including several in the Greater Montgomery area.

Company spokesmen say Alabama Power customers will still be able to pay their bills online, by mail, by phone or-----by paying a fee---- in person at certain at local retailers like a pawn shop, Walmart, Family Dollar, Dollar General and Piggly Wiggly.

Those Payment locations are posted online at alabamapower.com/payinperson.


"Making a payment is easy. Locate a participating merchant, provide the Alabama Power account number at the customer service counter and pay your bill. Payments post immediately to the customer’s account, for only a small convenience fee.


(Exactly what is the fee? It is does not seem to be listed anywhere online, making it easy to increase at any time).

    Did they mention another way--writing a check and mailing it in? The "convenience fee" is only 55 cents.
