Montgomery's Annual Gay Pride March is set for tomorrow, but based on the
Human Rights Campaign's Municipal Equality Index
Montgomery has a ways to go.
City Scorecards
Alabama- Auburn
- 4
- Birmingham
- 100
- Florence
- 12
- Hoover
- 12
- Huntsville
- 19
- Mobile
- 19
- Montgomery
- 17
- Tuscaloosa
- 30
These scores may be indicative of the reason why neither The Republican Governor, Kay Ivey, nor the non-partisan (and outgoing) Montgomery Mayor Todd Strange has issued a proclamation for Gay Pride Month.
The N.Y. Times reported even Donald Trump tweeted (minus the Q) "three weeks ago exhorting Americans to celebrate LGBT Pride Month and recognize the outstanding contributions LGBT people have made.” (though the administration's record on gay rights has been fairly miserable...), and his campaign offered "LGBTQ For Trump" T-shirts at a discounted $24!
Will any of the almost 12 candidates for Montgomery Mayor endorse gay rights in time for tomorrow's celebration in Montgomery? Will any of them actually join the march?
Remember Montgomery voters went for the Democratic Nominee in 2016.
