Monday Morning Media Memo

The N.Y. Times has had--shall we call it a "contentious" relationship with the President?
So have other major national papers, like The Washington Post, and those relationships extend well before Trump took office.

So it is no surprise to find the Times reporting about a White House-related effort to find negative information about reporters for those media outsets and release it to the public.
Don't argue the facts, attack those reporting them. As the Times reported on Sunday:

The campaign is consistent with Mr. Trump’s long-running effort to delegitimize critical reporting and brand the news media as an “enemy of the people.” The president has relentlessly sought to diminish the credibility of news organizations and cast them as politically motivated opponents.
Journalism, he said in a tweet last week, is “nothing more than an evil propaganda machine for the Democrat Party.”

Lord knows, I'm the easiest target in the shooting range, should anyone care to look. But it seems to me the reporters who expose the idiocy of the the Trump White House should be able to report that the emperor has no clothes, without having to explain their gaffs of decades ago.
