Just a reminder how high gas can go. This was in 2012 in Mont. |
Gas
prices will go up 6 cents per gallon today. It means drivers will pay 24 cents in tax for a gallon of gas (25
cents for diesel).
On Oct. 1, 2020, AND on October 1, 2021, gas and diesel will increase addition another 2 cents per gallon, for a total tax increase of ten cents a gallon.
On Oct. 1, 2023, and on each first of July after that, the taxes on both gas and diesel will be go up...or down...based on the yearly average of the National Highway Construction Cost Index. The increase---or decrease--- will be rounded to the nearest whole cent, not to exceed one-cent per gallon.
The revenue is earmarked for roads and bridges. But I'd keep an eye on the spending. Does the new revenue free up other state funds that are then used for other purposes?
The tax will go up. Trust me on this.
