The team working to remove the capsized car-carrier ship Golden Ray from the waters off the port of Brunswick Georgia recently removed the propeller and the rudder.

The pieces have been "donated" to Georgia:

"The removal of approximately 130 tons of weight will help reduce stresses to the hull of the wreck.
Portions of the ship that were removed are being donated to the State of Georgia for use as artificial reefs in areas designated by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources."

Still inside the ship: some 4,000 brand new cars of unclear manufacturer....however a p[ublication called The maritime Executive reports:

"The 656-foot vessel capsized on September 8 in St. Simons Sound while heading out to sea with 4,200 vehicles on board, including new Kia and Hyundai cars manufactured in Mexico for delivery to the Middle East."

Huh? Hyundai cars manufactured in Mexico were transported to Georgia to ship them to the Middle-East? Did the car carriers drive right past the Montgomery Alabama Hyundai plant during the journey?

This story gets stranger and stranger....
