Another Phrase For Commit: Don't Hold Your Breath

Obviously Sports headline writers are writing tongue-in-cheek when they used the word Commit:
Drake Maye

Alabama loses 2021 quarterback commit Drake Maye to North Carolina

They don't mean commit the way it is defined in the dictionary:

"...to pledge or bind (a person or an organization) to a certain course or policy."

(Similar: pledge....devote...apply...give...dedicate...bind...obligate..)

Maybe adolescent jocks didn't pay any attention in English class?

Apparently, when it comes to sports, comit means....

I'm thinking about it...

I drove past the school once...

I all else fails I'll give them a call....
