Biscuits Immune from COVID19?

The website of The Montgomery Advertiser includes a big pop up ad this morning promoting sales of The Montgomery Biscuits new season that begins on April 15th and continues through September 7th.

I'm betting that's an optimistic ad at best, and maybe somebody forgot about COVID19 restrictions. All the bars and restaurants are closed, but hundreds of people can gather at the ball park is Mid-April? I don't think so.

The Advertiser had a big promotional story about the Biscuits 2020 Season on March 4th. That was only three weeks ago, but it feels like three decades, considering the COVID19 restrictions that have been imposed locally and statewide since then.

A job fair for the season had been scheduled for March 19th, but was cancelled.

Perhaps the team can instead sell ticket to a raffle...whichever fan correctly guesses when the actual, real start of the season will be wins...whatever. Oh wait, that would violate Alabama antique anti-lottery laws.

Can't let people have fun with what money they still have, can we?

Major league baseball was supposed to begin this Thursday, but has been delayed two weeks. And the MLB website includes this 2020 season information:

The 2020 World Baseball Classic Qualifier games scheduled to be played in Tucson, Ariz., have also been postponed indefinitely, and Minor League Baseball announced that it is postponing its Opening Day -- originally scheduled for Thursday, April 9 -- to a to-be-determined date. Multiple teams had already pulled their scouts off the road as a result of this public health crisis.
“We want to go out there and we want to play, but at the same time, lives are at risk and looking at the bigger picture, we need to stay clear of everyone out there because this is just how crazy this thing is,” said Rays outfielder Kevin Kiermaier. “I don’t have a whole lot of education on it, I just know that it’s nothing to joke around with and I think that’s pretty safe to say. Never thought anything like this would ever happen, but once again, we have to adapt to what we’re asked of and try to do each and every thing possible to look out for ourselves, our families, the people around us that we’re keeping contact with until this slows down and hopefully that’s sooner than later.”
