Reuters is reporting J.C. Penny may file for bankruptcy and close 200 stores as soon as next week.
"While J.C. Penney aims to reorganize and emerge from bankruptcy protection, it plans to permanently shutter roughly 200 stores, a figure that could fluctuate depending on negotiations with creditors, the sources said." (Reuters story)
There is a J.C. Penny at the Eastdale Mall in Montgomery, but it is "temporarily closed" because of Covid19.
