Using "Dixie" in your name

A Winn-Dixie store way back in the day.

In case you missed it in the avalanche of Corvid19 stories, the Winn-Dixie supermarket chain may be about to change its name to get away from the "Dixie". There are several locations in the Central Alabama region, including in Montgomery, Prattville, Wetumpka, Millbrook, Selma and Alexander City

The change isn't being considered in isolation. It's part of the widespread extinguishing of Deep South & confederate references following the killing of George Floyd in Minnesota. One example is The Dixie Chicks going just by The Chicks.

The grocery chain is just shy of being a century old, though the Winn-Dixie name dates to 1955....coincidentally (?) the same year of Rosa Parks arrest and the Montgomery bus boycott.

Now, what about the many stores and companies with the word "Dixie" in their name? There are at least 58 of them listed in the Montgomery yellow pages, including all of the Winn-Dixie grocery stores and their pharmacies. There are roofing companies and auditors and electric cooperatives and even a pet cremation service.
Should they too consider changing their names?
