Gasoline tax increase today

The tax on gasoline goes up two cents per gallon on gas and diesel today. 

 

Another 2 cents per gallon will be levied Oct. 1, 2021. "Then, effective Oct. 1, 2023, and on July 1 of every year after that, the gasoline and diesel excise tax rate will be adjusted by the percentage change in the yearly average of the National Highway Construction Cost Index, rounded to the nearest whole cent." 

 

Great timing. The middle of a pandemic, with lots of folks out of work

 

Each 1 cent of the tax will add $32 million in new revenue for the state.
