I have relationships with many kinds of business entities.
I pay money to Alabama Power and Spire and the Water Works people to provide various utilities.
I pay money to grocery stores to provide me with foods and other goods for the house.
I have a longtime relationship with American Express.
I have a relationship with a couple of banks.
And it's that last kind that is the topic of this posting.
I get mail from all of them, and with the exception of the last, I expect hucksterism of one kind or another...raw sales effort to get me to give them more of my money. Buy a refrigerator from Alabama Power! or a stove from Spire! Take advantage of special sales at Publix! or Walmart!
But the later category...the banks...are, or at least should be... special. I don't expect raw sales from them. So when I received an envelope this week with this alert on the envelope I paid attention!
On top of that, the envelope described the contents as being "official mail" for...me!
If you get mail from your bank and your bank describes it as containing "IMPORTANT DOCUMENTS" shouldn't you be able to trust it?
Sigh. T'was just BBVA offering to lend me up to $50,000.
Hucksterism at its best. From a bank! Not a payday loan operation. A BANK! Licensed by the FDIC and all that.
UPDATE---Meanwhile Regions, with whom I also have business dealings, sent a similar piece of mail with this warning on the envelope:
They're only offering $35,000. So perhaps I should DISCARD?
