The first cut into the Golden Ray happened today off the coast of Brunswick Georgia. There's not much to see or hear in the video.
Description of the cut:
Responders attach the main hoists of the VB-10000 to custom designed lifting lugs as they prepare to cut Section One of the Golden Ray wreck. St. Simons Sound Incident response photo.
Each of the eight cuts is expected take a day....but there was no word from officials about the success of today's first cut, during which as many as a hundred of the thousands of formerly brand new GM cars were expected to fall into the water.
Insurance claims for the lost ship and cargo are expected to exceed $160-Million. The demolition of the ship is not included in that cost.
