A Black Lives Matter bus tour is making a rather disjointed trip through the South, marking...but not following...the Freedom Rides trip of 1961.
It starts in Birmingham and Jackson, MS

The only Alabama stop is the start in Birmingham (and Jackson Mississippi)...and includes a stop in West Virginia (though the original never entered that state!).

The route will NOT take them to Anniston, where a Freedom Riders bus was burned, nor to Montgomery, where the riders were beaten as police looked the other way (and where there is an excellent Freedom Rides Museum!)
I guess they had other priorities than historic ones in designing their route.
