It was 80 years ago today that The Capri Theatre opened on Fairview Avenue in Montgomery, originally called "The Clover".
The Director of the non-profit group that runs the theatre, Martin McCaffrey, tells me there are no plans for any events on today's actual anniversary, but some will be scheduled during the year.
But talk about auspicious years at the beginning and now!
1941The FCC approved commercial TV on July 1st
1941 The Clover Theatre opens in Montgomery on July 18th.
1941 The Japanese attack Pearl Harbor, resulting in the U.S. entry into WWII on December 7th.
And the lead up to today's 80th anniversary of the Capri has included the Covid19 imposed lock-down, eliminating the theatre's main source of income. And there have been mechanical and electrical challenges for the theatre during those months as well.
