Opinion: Thanks ALFA!

Such a nice thing ALFA does each year, providing the Alabama "Teacher of the Year" with a car to drive as he or she crisscrosses the state! It happened again last week here in Montgomery.

Forgive me for looking a gift car in the grill, but couldn't ALFA have arranged for the teacher to drive one of the many cars actually manufactured in Alabama

Instead, Kimberly Johnson will drive a Chevy Traverse made at General Motors Delta Township factory in Michigan

Perhaps ALFA wants to promote union membership? The GM factory is a union facility, with about 2,400 union members, whereas none of the Alabama plants are unionized, Alabama being a "Right to Work" state.

    Probably not.

And of course there's the irony of ALFA "promoting" education, since they lobby mightily against any increase in the taxes that fund education in the state, property taxes. They're working for the farmers, not the teachers.

Nonetheless, congratulations to Ms. Johnson for her selection, and thank you for the very hard work you perform! Happy driving!
