Craig Rodwell, the founder of the Oscar Wilde Memorial Bookstore in New York, must be spinning in his grave!
A column by James Gill in a New Orleans newspaper says Wilde was a fanboy of Jefferson Davis, president of the confederacy!
Wilde declared that Jefferson Davis, former president of the Confederate States of America, was the American he most wanted to meet because “the principles for which the South went to war cannot suffer defeat.”
Worse yet, at least from my dual-citizenship with Ireland standpoint, Wilde justified it by comparing the U.S. Civil War with the Irish fight for independence from Britain!
