As I've reported on this website more than once, Montgomery has a larger eviction rate than any of the other larger cities in Alabama. I've never figured out why, but an article I came across today explained why some forces might want it that way:
"In an article published in Politics & Society, Eviction Lab researcher Gillian Slee and founder Matthew Desmond find that evictions reduce community voting. According to their analysis, eviction decreased voter turnout in the 2016 presidential election, and is likely diminishing the power of low income, Black, and Latinx voters. However, promoting voting through Same-day and Election-Day registration may mitigate the harmful effects of evictions on communities."
It would take a lot more research to determine if there is an actual connection, or just a possible connection. But it is worth some thought!
