The White House is out this morning with a plan to use $27.5 billion dollars approved by congress (with little help from Alabama) to repair and/or replace bridges in poor condition....there are 586 of those in Alabama alone, according to last year's summary.
Here is the White House news release.
None of Alabama’s Republican congressmen voted for the bipartisan Infrastructure package, but Alabama’s only Democratic representative, Terri Sewell, voted yes.
This report from 2021 finds 4% of Alabama's bridges are in need of replacement or significant repair (Note: The report is from a trade group with a significant self-interest: The American Society of Civil Engineers.)
Alabama will receive $225 million from the measure.
