Today is the deadline for candidates to qualify for the May 24th primary elections, so it will be interesting to see if any surprise candidates pop up.
UPDATE: No big surprise candidates, but one of the Democratic candidates for Governor failed to register. Chris Countryman of Dothan had made more noise than other minor candidates...but was MIA when the deadline passed yesterday. (His Facebook page is still operating.)
There are a half dozen Republican candidates running for Governor, in addition to incumbent Kay Ivey, who may have been surprised to see so many primary challenging her for a second term. Only a few have been spending money on TV ads. (One GOP Gubinatorial ad criticizes Alabama schools...though GOP Control of the state for decades makes that a critique of the party as much as anything!)
There are several Democrats running, though these days that's a fool's errand. Back in the day (1980's and earlier), winning the Democratic nomination was tantamount to being elected. The reverse is true now. I don't believe I have seen even a single ad for one of them.
