Amin Nawabi, a pseudonym to protect the the star's identity, tells his story of being a refugee to his long time friend, director Jonas Poher Rasmussen. Amins story takes him from Afghanistan to Moscow and finally Denmark, all as a teenager escaping the Soviet invasion. Rasmussen seamlessly interweaves the trauma that animated Amin’s teenage years and young adulthood with his current ambivalence about marrying his longtime partner, Kasper.
