It's President's day, so no federal offices are open, nor any State of Alabama offices. There won't be any regular mail delivery either.
There's never been an Alabamian elected president, but not for lack of trying. George Wallace was campaigning in one of his runs for the White House when he was shot at a Maryland Shopping Center.
And there was a oh-so-brief Vice President from Alabama...William R. King. Learn about him, the only Vice-President sworn in on foreign soil!...HERE. Oh, and there's the fact that Alabama's Presidents' Day omits one of the most celebrated presidents, Abraham Lincoln, who of course led the Northern military against the confederacy.
