White Candidate Joins Three Black Men Running for Mayor

Three black men, including the incumbent mayor of Montgomery, are running for mayor...and now a white candidate has joined them.

Barrett Gilbreath, announced Thursday he will be joining the mayor’s race. (HERE is the full Alabama News Network story.)

Incumbent Steven Reed is the first black mayor of the capital city. He was first elected in 2019, and is seeking a second term. The election is on August 22nd.

Analysis added:

So who does Gilbreath's entry into the race hurt...i.e. who will lose votes of the existing candidates? Gotta be Reed.

By the way, Gilbreath's quote about crime:

'I would love to be able to sit on the corner of my kids’ bed at night and not have our prayers interrupted by gunfire'

Really? And just how often does that happen? Like EVERY time you pray with 'em?

Forgive my cynicism, but really? He's managed to attack Reed and show how religious he is in one stroke. Smart politics.
