9-23-23

I'm writing this on 9-23-23....one week from tomorrow (a Sunday!), President Jimmy Carter will turn 99 years old! At his age it's not advisable to plan too far ahead, but I hope he makes it to that day and that age!

I was pleased to meet him in the White House during his one term as president...and immensely pleased that his staff allowed me to get a photo shaking hands with him.

     Happy Birthday Mr. President!

A NY Times story on Thursday reported on how he spending his days:

"He spends his days now in the house where he and Mrs. Carter have lived since 1961, a two-bedroom, one-story rambler so plain that The Washington Post once calculated that it was worth less than the Secret Service vehicles parked out front. His children and grandchildren take turns visiting with them, and he has a crew of caregivers but has not seen a doctor in more than six months. President Biden calls from time to time to check in."
A photo that accompanied the NY Times article:

Mr. Carter, wearing a dark sports coat and a blue T-shirt, and Rosalynn Carter, wearing a dark jacket with small white dots and dark blouse, hold hands while seated in separate chairs.

(Mrs. Carter has been diagnosed with dementia).
