Georgia's Loss Could Be Alabama's Gain?

The Moses pecan farm in Uvalda, Georgia was battered by Hurricane Helene, losing all of its pecan-producing trees.

This photo from the Georgia Department of Agriculture shows the damage to pecan trees from Hurricane Helene. Georgia is/was the top pecan producer, but lost about a third of this year's crop.

Alabama is not among the largest pecan producing states, but pecans are a significant crop.

Alabama's pecan crop is a staple of the state's agriculture, with the state ranking eighth in the United States for pecan production:
Production: Alabama produces around 5.4 million pounds of pecans annually.
Location: Pecan orchards are located in 30 counties across the lower half of the state, with the highest concentration in Baldwin and Mobile counties.
History: Commercial pecan production began in Alabama in the early 1900s and became a major industry by the 1940s.

And, as reported in The Washington Post, millions of trees in North Carolina were destroyed or damaged as well by the storm. See their story HERE.
