On this date in 1971 Apollo 14 launched....carrying with it tree seeds that became known as "Moon Trees" (No, they were NOT planted on the Moon, but they did travel TO the Moon.) One of those was later planted at The Alabama State Capitol grounds.
That Lobolly Pine is now about 80 feet tall and in good health (a similar tree was planted at The White House, but it did not survive.)
