Morning After Talk Radio
The election of Sen. Barack Obama yesterday brought back memories of 16 years ago when Bill Clinton was elected to his first term...I was a talk show host at WERC in Birmingham, and as I prepared to go on air at 9:00 I was listening to our morning show of T.C. and John Ed. You would have thought the end of the world had arrived with the morning paper. The show was three-and-a-half hours of hand wringing and hatred toward Clinton from the hosts and callers. That set up the talk radio target for what would be the eight years of the Clinton Administration. "Whatever move he makes, whatever breath he takes..."
I don't listen to talk radio anymore...been there done that...but as an experiment I listened in to WERC's morning show this morning (now "Steve and Lea") via the Net and surprise surprise...from Hosts and callers: "our values are gone...God is gonna take his judgement out on this country...the media never told people the truth...Godless people are in financial trouble and the guy who said he would give them the most won...I'm against abortion, but i think we all need a morning-after pill...I've never been more disappointed in the nation, and this has nothing to do with race, but the country has lost its moral compass. Obama has sold his soul to the devil..."
I hope the new President-Elect knows that for all his talk about reaching across the aisle and working to solve the country's troubles, there are those who are prepared to attack each and every proposal he makes. And that's not going to do anything to solve the very real, historic challenges facing America. Buy hey, it's just a radio show, right?

One of the reasons I voted for Obama was because of the way McCain supporters acted during rallies by shouting out 'traitor', 'socialist', 'Muslim', 'terrorist' and worst of all 'Kill Him'. The fact that it took so long for McCain to chide them for their repugnant behavior and the fact that Palin never did. Even last night as McCain gave his very eloquent concession speech his supporters were booing. What a bunch of low class swine!
