Lobbyist Luther Strange is expected to announce his candidacy for something this week, likely the office of Attorney General that's currently held by fellow Republican Troy King. On April 18, he told The Huntsville Times ""It would be fair to say I get the most encouragement for running for attorney general,'' he said. "There's a huge need there.'' Hint hint.
But there's also been talk that he'll run in crowded Gubernatorial primary. "Big Luther" (as he calls himself) Strange ran for Lt. Governor in '06 and lost to Democrat Jim Folsom (son of the other "big" politician in Alabama, former Governor "Big Jim Folsom.")
The manager of Strange's new campaign has connections to the AG's office. Jessica Garrison was PR spokeswoman for Bob Pryor when he held the office. And Strange himself ran Pryor's AG campaigns twice and the AG campaigns of Jeff Sessions. There's been discontent with Troy King underneath the Republican "Big Tent" almost since he was appointed by Bob Riley. "Not ready for prime time" was the judgement of one GOP insider after King was a guest on FTR.
So Strange vs King, perhaps, likely, we'll see.
[UPDATE: announcement is set for Wednesday morning]
