Still no delegation action?
I posted about this story almost a month ago when TVA decided to sent much of that spilled coal ash to one of Alabama's poorest counties. I asked where Perry County's elected officials were on the shipments, including the Congressional Delegation? Today the Birmingham News is reporting that state officials are "confirming" that a test shipment has already been completed and the rest, we presume, is on the way by rail. Does nobody care about this? If it were being sent to a dump in Shelby County, would it get some attention then?

Fly ash, sometimes also known as coal ash, is used in concrete to strengthen it, as well as a host of other construction-material uses, including asphalt.
ReplyDeleteYet, it does carry some concerns about its proper disposal, as does any waste.
Arrowhead Landfill, is a privately owned and properly licensed facility, and is receiving the material.

So Perry county is among the poorest in Alabama. What does their poverty have to do with this story? The landfill has been there for several years and will remain there.
That I am aware, there has been no violation of the standards to which they are required to operate.
What seems to be the problem?
