M(S)MMM* # 198 -- The Race of The Producer

AP and others are reporting that a producer at NBC-TV has been fired for editing the George Zimmerman 911 call in a way that re-enforced the belief that the neighborhood watch volunteer was racially profiling Trayvon Martin.
I teach my Electronic News Gathering students that the race of an individual is important in only two occasions:  1) when race is part of a suspect's description, and 2) When the story is racial in nature (a racial discrimination complaint, a hate crime etc.).
In this story, is the race of the producer significant?
NBC isn't commenting on the story at all, including withholding the name and race of the producer. Funny how the media refuses comment when they are the story.
