Copper Feet of Clay

"I think it was an act of cowardice on the part of the university..."

So said a woman Sunday morning as she watched workers remove the statue of the late Joe Paterno...the man who Pennsylvania State University decided no longer deserves to literally have his image on a pedestal because he ignored the sexual abuse of children.

Tomorrow, the NCAA will announce the real penalty, and it could be the so called "death penalty" for Penn State.
Are there really people arguing this wasn't a football scandal? That the players and fans are being unfairly punished for the sins of a single assistant coach?
One thing is for sure. The next time a coach is spotted abusing a ten year old boy in a school shower, nobody will hesitate to report it, and no one will dare try to conceal it.
Perhaps, instead of just storing the statue in the stadium warehouse, they should melt it down and give the proceeds to an anti-child-abuse organization. If they don't, some months or years from now, school alumni will begin a campaign to restore it, opening the scab all over again.

  1. Better yet--stop giving football coaches godlike status.

It's the players who do the work.
