Amending The (State) Constitutions

Alabama's State Capitol reflected in the doors
of The State Archives and History Building.
Alabama's 1901 State Constitution is the longest in the world. That's not because the writers were paid by the word back then....it's because the document created such a centralized state government that anytime any municipality wants to do anything, they need a statewide vote to amend the constitution.
How many Amendments? 856 at last count...and there are eleven more on the ballot in November.
About 3/4 of the existing amendments pertain to only one county or city.
I don't recommend it, but I know some folks who routinely vote against all amendments as a way of protesting the idiocy of it all.
Alabama is not alone...Florida voters will be asked to approve eleven amendments as well on November 6th.
Here's a list of the eleven proposed Alabama amendments.
