The Alabama State National Fair ends Sunday night, and they had GREAT weather and, at least Saturday night when I visited, really big crowds.
The reason it's called the "National" Fair in Montgomery, the State Capitol? There was a legal fight a few decades ago in which Birmingham's Fair claimed the "state" title, and the courts agreed, leaving Montgomery's event to come up with the "National" name.
One media related event: one booth was offering pictures with a little monkey, and had signs posted saying it was "copyrighted activity" and photography was prohibited. I took a distant photo of the booth. the yellow square signed hold the warnings.
I'm not sure their prohibition is legal...I'll have to do some research
A few other shots from the night:
Motorcycle Jumpers

Lots of stomach threatening rides. I got on two and survived (-: |
My favorite booth: promising all kids who came by to catch "fish" would win. | So unlike most of the fair offerings. |
Perfect weather. |
Is Alabama still one of those few states that do not require inspection of carnival rides?
