MM(E*)MM # 247 -- One less Eagle to Fly Soon

The Jasper (Walker County, Alabama) Daily Mountain Eagle is going to drop its Monday print edition in January, the paper reports.
It becomes the latest Alabama newspaper to reduce its printing costs by going to less than seven-day-a-week publishing, and lessens the number of daily newspapers in the state by one.
The Birmingham News, The Huntsville Times, and The Press-Register (Mobile) all cut back to three-days a week in October. They laid off about 400 employees, while The Daily Mountain Eagle management says there will be no layoffs with their cutback.
Holding on to its seven day schedule is The Montgomery Advertiser, which published a special section about the pay wall is it to unveil this Thursday, requiring non-subscribers to pay for access to the online material.
Now we're left to wonder if the new Walker County paper will be called simply The Mountain Eagle.

  1. Grandma Advertiser had an eight-page insert in Sunday's paper. However, it gave no specifics about their new plan.
