The NTSB is on the scene in Midland Texas this morning, trying to sort through the details of the accident that killed four already-wounded U.S. Veterans on a flatbed truck that was hit by a train.
Many of the vets had their wives with them.
One saved his wife's life by pushing her off the truck. Another wife lost a leg, and her husband.
Reports this morning indicate the driver of that truck was a young soldier in uniform.
There are conflicting report as to whether his truck was blocked in front by another truck.
What can anyone do other than cry at the injustice of it all?
People trying to perform a good-act for veterans, who had given part of their lives in battle, mowed down by...what? Fate? Circumstances? Was anyone really to blame for it? Or was it just a wrong-place, wrong-time incident, with no lessons other than the frailty of all life.
There had been ten previous accidents at that crossing none of them fatal.
Meanwhile, in Egypt this morning, parents are mourning the deaths of 40  50 children who were killed when their school bus was hit by a train.

[11-18-12 UPDATE: Federal officials investigating the Texas accident say the train blew its horn nine seconds before impact. Nine seconds.]

  1. I'm very sorry about these deaths and injuries.

The computer animation in the video, if correct, shows the first flatbed going through the flashing red lights. The second flatbed continues as the gates go down.
